Police search Miller’s home again

“Pink flies” a link to Miller, Diazien and Girly?

(Albuquerque) Albuquerque Police investigating the disappearance and presumed murder of Girly Hossencofft executed a search warrant at the home of Bill Miller Thursday morning, December 14. Investigators seem intent on building a case largely based on forensic evidence. Detractors might suggest police are on a fishing expedition. In a sense they’re right. But to be more specific, the prosecutorial interest suddenly appears to be focussed on “fly fishing”; or items–such as deer hair– used to make flies.

Items seized Thursday include one blue and silver tackle box and its contents; some additional fishing items and equipment, two strands of cat hair and police photographs.

The search warrant affidavit states that an APD forensic expert has discovered a link between deer hair found inside Girly Hossencofft’s apartment and deer hair found inside a shampoo/carpet cleaner belonging to Diazien Hossencofft (the shampoo/carpet cleaner was seized in South Carolina shortly after Diazien Hossencofft’s arrest in that state). The affidavit states the deer hair “appeared to have been died pink”. It goes on to say, “Pink deer hair is typically used in tying flies for salt water fishing.”

The affidavit states that Bill Miller’s home does include a “fly fishing table” (a work area used for tying/making flies).
Here’s another fly fishing tie-in to the case. While searching Miller’s home last year, police collected small, pink “Mylar-type” pieces commonly used for making flies. Turns out similar Mylar pieces were also found inside the shampoo/carpet cleaner.

It seems apparent that police suspect the shampoo/carpet cleaner was likely used to clean-up blood found on the carpeting inside Girly’s apartment. When police searched the apartment one day after Girly disappeared, they found the damp, light-red stains on the carpeting. The apartment smelled like bleach.
